Trey’s Favorite Veteran

Trey and I drove up to Sweetwater on Veteran’s Day to see his great-grandparents. We stayed a couple days and even got to see my dad who was returning from the TBC. Despite the rain and the cold weather Trey enjoyed the farm (the cows never disappoint him).

My grandfather Bill Haun’s full name is Roger William Haun. It is after him that I was named (hence the II) and Trey as well (hence the III and the nickname “Trey”).

We are very proud of “Peepaw” who is a decorated war veteran from WWII. He led a tank battalion across Europe and fought at the Battle of the Bulge. He was honorably discharged after the war and awarded both Silver and Bronze Star Medals. For those that don’t know, a Silver Star is the 3rd highest award a member of the U.S. Armed Forces can receive and it is awarded to those who show “gallantry in action against an enemy”. The Bronze Star is given to those that “distinguished himself or herself by heroic or meritorious achievement or service“.

Trey and I are both proud to be the grandsons of and named after a true American hero.

Your Peepaw also received the Silver Star which is awarded for heroism – an even higher award than the Bronze Star.
